The paraglider variometer for your iPhone: Taking off has never been so easy
You always have your smartphone with you anyway. Whether it's for phone calls, checking the weather or as a map device. And now your smartphone is also a reliable variometer:
- All of the above functions are included in the paraglider app.
- Flight school instructors and experienced competition pilots supported us in the development and extensive practical tests and contributed their expertise.
The VARIO ONE paragliding app also includes a practical flight log for your iPhone. This saves you time as your flights are automatically recorded. The flight log can be called up at any time and offers you great statistics that you can use to analyse your flight, for example.
A glide ratio display is of course also included: this allows you to easily calculate whether you can reach a landing site or another destination or whether you should look for an alternative early on.
And as a little treat, you can choose between a white mode and a dark mode: depending on your taste and the current lighting conditions.

The most precise pressure sensors are in the Apple Watch 6, 7, 8 and of course in the Apple Watch Ultra. In the iPhones, this is in the iPhone Pro Max 12 and higher. These can easily keep up with the really good Varios.

There are also mounts for other hardware vario devices that are attached to the leg and have Velcro on the other side. If you get a cheap case for your iPhone and attach the other side of the Velcro to this case, you can attach your iPhone like any other vario.

Of course, and it's very convenient. You can toggle the switch under Settings: "Synchronise flight log". Yes, we have designed Vario One for the Apple Watch so that you don't need to have an iPhone with you. The Apple Watch itself has precise sensors such as a barometer, GPS and a speaker. We were even able to elicit beeps from the speaker 🙂
At 38.8 grams (aluminium version of the watch), this is probably the lightest Vario with this range of functions.
Yes, we've been working hard on it. Vario One for Apple Watch can beep your climb through the watch's speaker. We have optimised the sound curve with league pilots and flight school instructors.
If Vario One does not emit any beeps on your Apple Watch, then you have turned the volume down too low. Proceed as follows:
- Open Vario One and turn the crown to the right (forwards) and listen to see if anything changes
- If this does not work, search for the "Play now" app on your Apple Watch. The app icon looks like 5 lines in red and pink. Here you can adjust the volume for different devices. You are probably adjusting the volume of the iPhone with the crown. Therefore, click on the arrow at the top left (or bottom left) to select the Apple Watch and then change the volume of your watch. This has worked for all requests so far 🙂
