New Release 4.4 | All DHV takeoff and landing sites available for free in the app

All DHV takeoff and landing sites – free directly in the app

With Release 4.4, all official takeoff and landing sites of the DHV (Deutscher Hängegleiterverband – German Hang Gliding Association) are visible directly in Vario One. Free of charge, without subscription and without in-app purchase.

Safety-relevant information should be freely accessible to every pilot – without a paywall.

Clear orientation on the map

All DHV takeoff and landing sites are displayed directly on the map. This means:

  • At a glance you can see where you can take off and land
  • In unfamiliar flying areas you immediately find the official sites
  • During flight planning you can identify alternatives and emergency landing spots

The sites are integrated into the existing map view – together with wind stations, airspaces and the thermal heatmap.

Quickly assess wind direction and terrain

Thanks to the display on the topographic map you can immediately see:

  • What the terrain looks like – contour lines, slope gradient, orientation
  • From which direction the wind should come – for a safe takeoff
  • Where the landing sites are relative to the takeoff – for emergency planning

This saves time during flight preparation and helps you make the right decision before you take to the air.

More safety through better information

Knowing where the official sites are reduces risk:

  • No taking off at unsuitable spots – especially important in new areas
  • Safe landing sites always in view – even when the flight doesn’t go as planned
  • Current, official data directly from the DHV

Our philosophy: information must be free

We firmly believe that safety-relevant information must be freely accessible to every pilot. Takeoff and landing sites belong to the basic information every pilot should know – regardless of which app they use or how much they pay for it.

That’s why this feature is completely free:

  • No subscription required
  • No in-app purchase
  • No restrictions
