I am delighted that we have been able to enter into a cooperation with Alistair from Blue Fly Vario and are now also supporting the Blue Fly Vario in Vario One. I would like to briefly explain why and what advantages this has:
What is the Blue Fly Vario?
The Blue Fly Vario is a highly sensitive hardware vario the size of a matchbox, which has exactly one button and is therefore totally easy to operate. There are on/off and sound on/off functions. The pressure sensor inside the Bluefly checks the pressure difference 50 times per second and can detect height differences of just 10 cm. It has been passionately developed by Alistair in Australia since 2011 and is one of the most accurate vario's I have ever tested. The vario has no display, but can be controlled via Bluetooth if you can program it 🙂 The excellent price as of today (November, 2024) is 101 Australian $, which is less than 70 Euro are.
Why should you use Blue Fly Vario in combination with Vario One?
For many Vario One users, the internal pressure sensor installed in newer iPhones or the Apple Watch is sufficient. Especially in combination with the acceleration sensor, Vario One immediately detects the smallest differences in height. However, there are at least 3 use cases that make this combination interesting:
- If you have an older iPhone, you can use the combination of an old iPhone and Bluefly Vario to build an absolutely top-class device
- If you want to place the pressure sensor somewhere other than the display
- If you don't trust the iPhone sensors and prefer to drive conservatively
How do you marry Bluefly Vario and Vario One?
A total of 3 clicks are required for Vario One to use the internal Bluefly sensors:
Menu -> BlueFly Vario settings -> Click on BlueFly Vario
The Vario is automatically connected via Autoconnect when the app is started
